Holocaust Survivors Assistance Program

​

Ensuring that Survivors age with dignity and respect, JFSA offers a variety of support services and practical help including referral and advocacy, outreach, care management, counseling, consultation, assistance with reparations and claim forms, crisis intervention, dental and medical assistance, food, transportation, and financial assistance to low-income survivors.  Survivors receive Homecare services on a weekly basis and or home cleaning services.  JFSA provides a community of caring for Survivors and their families.

Clark County has over 250 Holocaust Survivors living throughout the Valley.  Jewish Family Service Agency assists over 30 needy survivors each day. The Holocaust Survivor Program at JFSA is the only agency in the Las Vegas area providing services and support to the Holocaust Survivor Community.

  • A social club inviting Survivors to meet regularly to build supportive relationships, and participate in social and educational activities including trips, holiday celebrations, and entertainment. Luncheons are held monthly.

In addition to the mentioned services, our program provides assistance with a plethora of personal and general issues.  These are just some examples: finding a lawyer to assist with health directives and wills, volunteers to assist with minor home repairs and landscaping, and burial.​

Funding Sources

• Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany

  • JFSA receives funds from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Holocaust Survivor Emergency Assistance Fund, administered by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany for the benefit of Jewish Nazi victims.

• ​The David Berkovits Memorial Fund to Aid Holocaust Survivors in Need 

  • This fund began just over three years ago.  The fund was started as a way to remember the generosity that David demonstrated throughout his life.  His family knew that helping others would be the best way to preserve his memory.  The fund has helped many local Survivors in need with necessities that otherwise would not be available to them.  The generosity of family and friends both within and outside the local community has been incredible.  It is the wish of David's wife and daughter that the fund continues as long as there are Survivors in need.

 

Senior Lifeline Program

​

Las Vegas Senior Lifeline (LVSL) is a non-denominational program established in 2004.  The goal of the Las Vegas Senior Lifeline is to better equip low-income, frail older adults (age 60+) to live independently in their own homes, maintain a high quality of life and reduce unnecessary institutionalization.

​

All LVSL clients receive Case Management services. An individual service plan is developed and monitored of to ensure that health and social service needs are met through a combination of LVSL and community resources. Clients meet with their case manager regularly to conduct “in-home” and telephone assessments in order to maintain services.

 

Current LVSL services include:

 

• Homemaking Services - Assistance with light housekeeping.

• Nutrition Transportation – bus transportation for grocery shopping & congregate meal.

• Medical Transportation - provided in conjunction with the Nevada Division of Aging Taxi Cab Voucher program. LVSL pays for Taxi Cab Coupons when they are used for medical & social service appointments.

• Congregate Meal - a quarterly nutritious meal service for qualified clients.

• Prescription, Medical, Durable Medical Equipment/Supply Assistance - Co-payment for medications and doctor visits along with assistance for supplies such as lancets, syringes or glucose testing strips, incontinence supplies, post-surgery supplies, and other medically necessary equipment not paid by Medicare (combined $275.00 limit per client, per year).​

Senior Care Management

​

JFSA provides a comprehensive array of services for older adults, with the goal of helping them remain healthy, active and independent in their own communities.

 

All of our community-based care services are designed to enable seniors to live in the least restrictive environment possible.

​

Programs include:

• Essential mental health services,

• Home delivered groceries

• Care management,

• In-home assessments,

• Advocacy and coordination of social services with community agencies.

• We provide volunteers for friendly visiting and establish relationships with vendors who are willing to provide assistance with home repairs at a low or no cost to low-income seniors. 

• We also assist seniors and families of seniors in coordinating:

  • Transfers to local assisted living and nursing home facilities

  • Coordination of Legal services provided Pro-Bono through Legal Aid

Senior Companion

 

Senior Companions are volunteers 55 and over who provide assistance and friendship to seniors who have difficulty with daily living tasks, such as shopping or paying bills. The program aims to keep seniors independent longer and provide assistance to family caregivers.

Nevada Care Connection

  

Nevada Care Connection is a program of JFSA, funded by the state of Nevada. Nevada Care Connection works with older adults, people with disabilities, and family caregivers to explore a variety of services, resources, and programs available to them. Our goal is to help individuals make informed decisions and connect to services as easily as possible.

Nevada Care Connection at JFSA provides the following services:

Information & Referral:

• Provides information about resources in the community to consumers interested in and able to pursue services on their own.

• Connects consumers who need additional support with a Resource Navigator.

Resource & Service Navigation:

• Includes a comprehensive assessment of the consumer’s needs, preferences, values and existing supports that results in a person-centered service plan.

• Resource Navigators assist a consumer in pre-determining possible eligibility for public programs, application assistance, document gathering, and connections to services and supports.

Case Management:

• Targeted to individuals who have a dementia or cognitive impairments to monitor and follow-up on services specified in the individual’s plan
