Philosophy and Purpose

JFSA provides financial assistance when no other family or community resources are available, sufficient or appropriate. The program is meant to be a one-time crisis intervention for help with basic needs. Each client is evaluated individually maintaining the highest degree of confidentiality, respect and discretion. It is understood that each applicant is struggling personally and making the difficult decision to reach out for help. It is the intention of this program to help each applicant in some way, whether through direct services or appropriate referral to other organizations or intra-agency services. The approval of financial aid places a big responsibility on the social work professional and, with it, the obligation to exercise sensitive and compassionate flexibility.

Eligibility

​

• All individuals served must reside in Las Vegas and Henderson.

• Financial assistance will be provided as part of a written casework plan which utilizes appropriate agency and community resources.​

• Any financial crisis must be verified by supporting documents such as medical records, landlord statement, loss or interruption of income or unexpected expenses. Large expenses related to car repair, home air conditioning or medical issues can be considered in determining need.

• Clients must understand that this assistance is one-time only and must have a verifiable plan to pay bills in the future. The Coordinator of Financial Assistance may approve additional help in well-documented situations regarding medically related circumstances.

The following are examples of typical basic needs for which assistance may be provided. Since there is no way to foresee all circumstances that can create hardship, other needs may be considered and met with the approval of the program director.
